Using the same graphics engine as Doom 3, we have the latest
game from the great publisher Raven.
I think there out in general is better than ID; Heretic, Soldier of
Fortune and Return to Castle Wolfenstien.
For me this was a bit of a backwards step. Yes, it’s got great graphics, that when
it’s not dark all the frigging time.
It does use the lighting effects well but so what. It seemed to me that whilst the world had
gone on to make better game this got stuck in a time warp.
For a start; it still uses the same tired old plot premise that
was used over eight years ago in Quake 2 and I know that it’s a direct sequel
but, couldn’t they have improved the story a little bit. Doom 3 has a better story for crying out
loud. The specs that were need to run
this game beggared belief.
It was uncommon for the top and I do mean top of the range PC to
have difficulties. I’m sure there are those who would point out that if you
turned down the setting, this game ran fine and I would have to agree with
them but, when you spend thousand of pounds on a new gaming rig, you’re
looking at pushing everything to the max.
It isn’t logical but neither is spending thousands of pounds on a
computer just to play games.
So you had the trade off.
In fact, I think almost everyone had the trade off and when you
consider how well Half Life 2 ran on so many different setups, it just made this look a little bit
rushed.
If they make a Quake 5 I would ask them to stop trying to
frighten me and frighten me.
Good game but must try harder.
