This is the movie of the old
cartoon series and is directed by the same people who brought us the
Matrix trilogy.
I must first point out that this
movie is aimed at children and if you are expecting it to be ultra
violent, you'll be disappointed.
The plot is as old and used as any
other movie you will see. Speed drives for his father and is the
hottest talent in the world whatever league. He is offered a drive
with some big shot who wants to rule the racing circuit. So the big shot
who has an English accent because everyone knows that only the English
are evil right?
He tells Speed that if he doesn't
drive for his team he will never win a race and in fact, will not even
start. So off Speed goes to fight against the machine man!
In one of his races he meets up with the mysteries racer X and they plot
the downfall of the English dude.
I won't spoil it for you, but if
you have more than two brain cells to rub together, you already know the
outcome of the movie. The point of the movies it seems to me, is
to promote the new special effects that it has.
The trouble I had was that the
special effects looked like something I would have expected to see on a
Playstation 1 FMV sequence. I'm sure that it looks good but
nothing that could not have been down a decade ago. I found some
of the movie difficult to follow with the cars constantly spinning and
flipping over each other. I did enjoy it for what it was.
It is a silly movie that makes no
sense and it's only goal is to entertain and I say, mission
accomplished.

I
never watched the original, so can't compare them but, there was a
spoof of the series on Dexter's Laboratory that gave me some idea
what to expect. |
 |
So
the new version is a live action movie and follows the exploits of
Speed Racer. That's right, the lead driver is actually called
Speed Racer. |
|
 |
This
is the dude in the original series and talked very fast. |
 |
In
the live action movies he seems to have come of the speed and talks
a lot slower. |

The
mark 5 car looks a lot closer to the mark 5 from the original series
and it's surprising that it stay intact. |
