Jet Li in War

Here is new latest movie staring Jet Li and Jason Statham.

It starts off with John Lone (Chang) and Jason (Jack Crawford) in the middle of what looks like a gang war.  Crawford thinks that an assassin called Rouge is here and they go and check out what happened.  A man appears and shoots Crawford and is about

to finish the job off, when Chang appears and kills the man.

Latter on in the movie we see the two men talking on the phone and arranging a barbecue or something.  A lone man (that we thought was dead) kills Chang’s wife, child and Chang.  Crawford appears and once realising what has happened decides to get revenge.  Sounds familiar eh?  Trust me it gets a lot worse.

Three years latter Rouge appears on the scene (Jet Li) and offers his service to the Triads and this is of a surprise to their leader.  He questions how someone could suddenly turn on his master.  Rogue replies that he doesn’t have a master (the Yakuza).

So he starts trouble between the two gangs and causes a lot of damage (the usual nonsense) and gets pretty much everyone killed.  He then tells the secret of who he really is (which doesn’t come as any surprise) and kills the person who started this in the first place.

Listen Jet.  Stick to what you know best; Hong Kong movies.  You have not been in one good movie in America.  I love your Hong Kong movies, but let’s face it. You don’t know how to pick good American scripts.

If you must watch this travesty of a film; rent it, get drunk and you might and I must repeat might enjoy this film.

The characters are not likeable; they have no depth to them and they do things that don’t make any sense at all in this film.

I just wished that along with all the characters in this movie, that they shot the writer and director.  They must have got the studio executives seriously drunk before suggesting

this movie.  It is the reason why martial arts/cross over movies in the west very rarely work.

If Jet Li had another career, I would say; don’t give up your day job.
